The Penguins are proud to have our first official youth team. In 2018 the Junior High Rebels Penguins are registered with Rugby Alberta in the U-15 category (ages 12-14). Special thanks and appreciation to all the efforts by Jared Nichol who has been instrumental in making this happen. Our club is excited for the opportunity to be involved in developing the sport and young athletes. There is a lot of work behind the scenes to expand our resources to meet this challenge. It has created chances for many alumni and current members to volunteer in various roles including coaching. As part of the youth development effort, Cold Lake Penguins RFC was able to host a local coaching clinic and get 15 people trained for certification. The timing is great as the high school program will be celebrating the 10 year milestone in 2018. It is recognized to be the culmination of a vision that started many years ago. A major showcase event will be happening on May 4th and 5th as the Rebels host a home tournament that will include both the junior high and high school clubs. We are also proud to announce that we will be hosting mini-camps again this year for children under the age of 12. It was such a success last year and the interest is very encouraging. In addition, Cold Lake will be trying out to participate in the Alberta Summer Games. There are efforts in play to coordinate a NE Alberta team that would take the best players from Lloydminster, Cold Lake and Fort McMurray to represent in this year’s competition. The future is bright and very exciting.
