Due to various circumstantial reasons, senior rugby in Alberta suffered from low membership registration in 2017. Without abundant membership many clubs were facing significant struggles including the Cold Lake Penguins, Lloydminster Reapers and Ft. McMurray Knights. For the love of the game, the clubs joined together to ensure players continued to have access to the sport. Having the combined clubs was instrumental in completing the season.
